    The French and Indian war was quite costly in that the British empire had essentially exhausted itself to pay to send troops and supplies overseas for years. They tried to levy taxes in various forms (sugar, tea, stamp acts) at an unreasonable rate from the Colonists, which prompted a lot of unsatisfied colonists and eventually revolution
