Nationalism is basically extreme patriotism. Like strong belief in ones country.

In the 19th century, Greece won it's independence from the Ottoman empire. This was an act of nationalism as the Greek rebelled because the Ottomans were forcing the Greeks to convert to Islam. This affected the world in WW1 when Greek as a country refused to

let allied forces across it's borders.

In 1923, the Turkish people overthrew the monarchy, establishing a republic. This occurred due to a strong sense of nationality between the common people. This is important because Turkey would be a lot more corrupt if it had remained a monarchy.

In the 19th century the Irish became independent from Sweden and Britain. This occurred because of a strong sense of unity between the people of Ireland aimed against the british. This affected the world because it added a new political power to the table to contend with.
