The battle of Lake Champlain changed the method used by the Iroquois to fight the French. The French had muskets which were noisy and slow in their action. At first the Iroquois were frightened by the noise, smoke and flames from the muskets. However, they soon realised that their bows and arrows were superior to the French muskets. They were quick-firing and silent. The Iroquois then changed their tactics and launched surprise attacks from inside a forest. They were able to overpower French settlers before they could return fire.
