John White was an English cartographer, governor, and artist. In May of 1585 John White sailed on an expedition that later set up a colony on Roanoke Island. After White took injuries he sailed back to England to recover, leaving the colony for itself. The colony was later abandoned in 1586 unfortunately. No one was found left, but the remains of the colony. In 1587 he sailed back to North America to become governor of a second colony, that Sir Walter Raleigh attempted to found.
