The Monroe Doctrine was created because the US wanted to play neutral on the on-going colonization all over the world. During this time, the US had just gotten hold of Florida and Spain was losing many colonies in the south. The doctrine stated that if the colonizers would attempt to retrieve their lands, the US will consider this as an act of aggression and might start a war with its aggressors.
