Muslims consider Christians and Jews people of the book because they both received a book (Bible and old Testament). These book came from Jesus and Moses, who they believe are prophets like Muhammad, who believe in One God named Allah. They believe that Christian and Jews changed there Books, but they are still the generation who received it and are it a way "special" hence named "people of the book"
