    C. They feared that revolution would lead to a destructive war that the British would win.

In 1607, the first permanent British colony was established in the Americas at Jamestown, Virginia. It is believed that Jamestown is where the origins of the British Empire was. It was established by the Virginia Company of London. Jamestown also served as the capital of the British Colony for eighty-three years. The original colonists did not get on with the Native Americans who lived in the area. The Native American population was eventually decimated by the British colonists. Very few of the early colonists survived. They died due to lack of food and increase in diseases.
