How did southern states limit african american's voting rights without affecting the voting rights of white people?

    They limited the African Americans voting rights by making them take literacy test and by the grandfather clause which meant that if your grandfather could vote then you were also able to vote.

    They added literacy tests that narrowed the African American odds making it that much harder to vote.
