A biologist has a 40% solution and a 10% solution of the same plant nutrient. How many cubic centimeters of each solution should be mixed to obtain 25 cc of a 16% solution?

    The proportion of 10% solution is

    ... (40 - 16) / (40 - 10) = 24/30 = 4/5

    (4/5) * 25 cc = 20 cc of 10% solution are needed.

    (1/5) * 25 cc = 5 cc of 40% solution are needed.
