In order to prepare for building a brick patio, a rectangle measuring 8 feet by 10 feet must be marked off, then the dirt dug out to a depth of 0.5 feet. what is the volume of sand needed, in feet, to feel up the space?

    The sand makes up a rectangular prism of dimensions 8' by 10' by 0.5'.

    The volume of sand is then V = L*W*H, or V = (10') (8') (0.5') = 40 cubic ft.
