Divide a line segment 80 inches long so that one part exceeds the other by 20 inches. What is the length of the shortest segment?

    Let the small segment be X inches

    The bigger segment is X + 20 = 80

    The sum is X + X + 20=80

    2x + 20 = 80

    2X = 69, X=30

    So smaller segment is 30 inches and lager segment is 50 inches
