Given x+2y=-6 solve for y

    Y needs to be by itself.

    Subtract x from both sides.

    2y=-x-6

    Divide both sides by 2.

    y=-1/2x-3

    You take the x and change it to the other side to leave y by itself and then divide by 2 = Y=-3-x
