First arrange all of the distances as fractions

    1 2/3 miles = 5/3

    1 3/4 miles = 7/4

Now you have to make them common denominators

    5/3 = 20/12

    7/4 = 21/12

    Now add them

    20/12 + 21/12 = 41/12 miles

Now to find the distance in the last 1/2 hour.

    41/12 x 1/4 = 41/48 miles

Now we have to add them, but first make them have common denominators.

    41/12 = 164/48

Now to add it all up.

    164/48 + 41/48 = 205/48 miles
