    Step-by-step explanation:

    Let A be first company

    Install x square feet of brick pathway cost

    C₁ = 234 + 14x

    And company B to install x feet of brick charge

    C₂ = 23x

    If we make C₁ = C₂ we will find the area in which the cost will be the same for the two companies

    Therefore

    C₁ = C₂

    234 + 14x = 23x

    - 23x + 14x = - 234

    -9x = - 234

    x = 234/9

    x = 26 ft² is the area that could be installed by either company at the same cost

    How much would it cost

    C₁ = 234 + 14x C₂ = 23*x

    C₁ = 234 + 364 C₂ = 23*26

    C₁ = 598 monetary units C₂ = 598 monetary units
