rate of change = 2 ft / min

initial value = 175 feet elevation

    Step-by-step explanation:

we are given that his altitude rose 10 feet for every 5 min,

    hence the rate of change

    = 10 feet : 5 min

    = 2 feet/min

we are also given that he hiked for an hour and ended up at 295 feet

    1 hour = 60 min.

for a rate of 2 feet / min, if he walked 60 min, he would have walked:

    2 feet/min x 60 min = 120 feet.

final value = initial value + change

initial value = final value - change

    = 295 - 120

    = 175 feet elevation
