First of all your question correctly written is 'What is an exponent and what does it do?'

Second and exponent is a shorter way to right a large number for instance the number 32,400,000 to put this number in exponential form you put a decimal after the first larger than zero number which is 3 than if there are other non zero numbers (which in this case there are) you put them after the decimal next you count the amount of zeroes you have left (5) and make that the power of ten so your number 3.24x10^5

    Good Luck!

Exponents are a mulitiple time s the same number repeating it basically

    10 with the exponent of 5 means 10*10*10*10 * 10=
