If the hypotenuse right angle of a triangle is 17 inches long, one of the legs is 15 inches. Find the length of the other leg

    Use the Pythagorean theorem.

    a^2+b^2=c^2

    15^2+b^2=17^2

    225+b^2=289

    Subtract 225 from both sides of the equation and you get:

    b^2=64

    b=8
