Lauren says that two expressions 3x+4 (2x+5) and 6x + 5x. do these equal the same

    these do not equal the same.

    step by step: 3x + 4 (2x + 5)

    multiply 4 by 2x, which is 8, then multiply 4 by 5, which is 20.

    simplify; 3x + 8x + 20

    combine like terms; (3x + 8x) + (20)

    you'll come up with 11x + 20

    step by step: 6x + 5x

    just add the two together and ... bam, you get 11x.
