Expand the brackets by multiplying everything in the brackets by - 0.25.
-x x - 0.25 = 0.25x
-12 x - 0.25 = 3
0.25x + 3 = 2
-3 from both sides.
0.25x = - 1
Divide both by 0.25
x = - 4
