    Step-by-step explanation:

    Let's first get rid of the feet and turn everything into inches.

    1 foot = 12 inches.

    9 * 12 + 5.5 = 113.5

    1 * 12 + 10.5 = 22.5

    We need a rod that's 113.5 inches long, each section is 22.5 inches.

    22.5x = 113.5 Simple division here to get 5.

    We now do 22.5 * 5 to get 112.5 A little bit off aren't we? So we can just add 1 to how many poles there will be making it 6.

    22.5 * 6 = 135 Now we are over.

    We would need 6 poles which add up to 135 inches.

    We can now do 135 - 113.5 to get 21.5 inches left which are left.
