    Let x = 5 dollar bills

    Let y = 10

    Dollar bills

    X + y = 38 bills

    Rewrite as Y = 38 - x

    5x + 10y = 260 dollars:

    5x + 10 (38-x) = 260

    5x + 380 - 10x = 260

    -5x = - 120

    X = - 120/-5

    X = 24

    He has 24 five dollar bills
