To stimulate his son in the pursuit of problem solving, a math professor offered to pay him $8 for every problem solved correctley and to fine him $5 dollars for every incorrect solution at the end of the first 26 problems neither owed any money to one another how many problems were solved correctly and how many were not

    Let x be the number of problems solved correctly.

    8x = 5 (26 - x)

    13x = 130

    x = 10

    10 problems were solved correctly and 16 problems were not solved correctly.
