    2x + y = - 4 5x + 3y = - 6

    y = - 4 - 2x

    substitute y=-4-2x into 5x+3y=-6

    5x + 3 (-4-2x) = - 6

    5x - 12 - 6x = - 6

    -x=6

    x=-6

    sub x=-6 into 2x+y=-4

    -12 + y = - 4

    y=8

    x=-6 and y=8
