The amount of heat needed to be absorbed by the water to be completely boiled off would be equal to the total latent heat of the given mass of water. We calculate it by multiplying the mass with the heat of vaporization of water which is equal 2230 J/g. We calculate the first question as follows:

    Heat to be absorbed by water = 2230 J/g (150.0 g) = 334500 J

To determine the maximum amount of heat that the iron sphere could release, we need the heat capacity of iron which is 0.450 J/g-C. We calculate it by multiplying the heat capacity with the mass of the sphere and the temperature change.

    Maximum heat for the iron = 75.00 g (0.450 J / g-C) (385.0 C - 100 C) = 9618.75 J

Therefore, the heat released by iron would not be enough to boil off water.
