Fuel based lawnmowers utilise fossil fuels to produce energy, similar to petrol and diesel fuel used in road vehicles. The burning of these fuels to produce energy leads to the production of a number of gases including carbon dioxide, methane, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide. Some of these gases are poisonous whilst others such as carbon dioxide facilitate global warming.
