An elevator (mass 4000 kg) is to be designed so that the maximum acceleration is 0.0500g. what is the maximum force the motor should exert on the supporting cable?

    The formula relating mass, force and acceleration is:

    Force = mass * acceleration

    Therefore to calculate the maximum force, simply multiply the two: (g = gravity = 9.8 m/s^2)

    Force = 4000 kg * 0.0500 (9.8 m / s^2)

    Force = 1960 Newton
