    First, we calculate for the force that is attributed to the pumpkin. That is 5.5 kg times the acceleration due to gravity which is equal to 9.8 m/s2. This gives us an answer of 53.9 N.

    We then divide the calculated value with the constant given.

    d = 53.9 N / (4500 N/m) = 0.01197 m

    Therefore, the spring was stretched for about 11.98 mm.
