Why does passing white light through a prism seperate the colors?

    Dispersion of light. white light is made up of 7 colors. that is why it separates into 7 colors of the rainbow.

    This is the reason why we see rainbow in the sky after it rains, in this case suspended water molecules in the are acts as the medium of dispersion.
