    complete question:

    Mechanical energy is

    A. The energy due to internal moving parts.

    B. The energy of motion.

    C. The energy of position.

    D. The sum of kinetic energy plus potential

    energy.

    E. The sum of kinetic, potential, thermal, and elastic

    energy.

    Answer:

    D. The sum of kinetic energy plus potential

    energy.

    Explanation:

Mechanical energy is said to be the sum of kinetic energy and potential energy. Kinetic energy is the energy an object possess when in motion. Potential energy is the energy an object possess by virtue of it position.

In other words mechanical energy is the energy in an object by virtue of it position, motion or even both. Example of a mechanical energy is when a carpenter uses an hammer to drive a nail in a wood. The hammer with it weight has a potential energy as it is been raise upward to drive the nail to the wood, the hammer gain more potential energy with height. As the it gains motions to drive the nail to the wood, the hammer possess kinetic energy because of it motion.

The sum of these energy, both kinetic and potential energy is the mechanical energy.
