What is the main way sound waves cause hearing loss?

    The sounds which range between 20Hz and 20KHz are detectable by human ear. The Human ear can hear sounds only in the range of 0dB to 120dB. This is called audible range of Human ear.

    Exposure of the human ear to loud sounds which are beyond the audible range may cause hearing loss. The hearing loss may occur due to damage to any of the parts in the auditory pathway of human ear.

    There are 3 types of hearing loss, namely, conductive, sensorineural, and mixed.

    The major ways sound can cause hearing loss exposure to loud sounds from

    1. Household appliances like grinder, food mixer etc.

    2. Listening to music at large volumes.

    3. Industrial noise from factories and sirens.

    4. Transportation noise due to heavy vehicles and blowing horn.

    5. Aeroplane horns and nuisance created by neighbours.

    6. Construction activities noise.
