An automobile speedometer is configured to read speed proportional to the rotational speed of its wheels. If larger wheels, such as those of snow tires, are used, will the speedometer reading be high or low - or no different?

    Speedometer also called speed meter is a gauge that monitors and shows the vehicle's instantaneous speed.

    For larger wheels speedometer show less rating in the meter as compared to the wheels with a small diameter. Large wheels require less rotation to cover the same distance which results in a low rating on the speedometer.

    Therefore vehicles with larger wheels should be calibrated according to its diameter to give an accurate reading.
