Explanation: Let us represent displacement of dog in vector form

Let us consider east as + x axis and north as + y - axis

    28 m east = 28 i

35 m at 69 degrees east of north

    35 sin69 i + 35 cos69 j

    = 32.67 i + 12.54 j

    31 m at 41 degrees west

    31m (90-69) + 41 = 62 degree north of east

    = 31 cos62 i + 31sin62 j

    = 14.55 i + 27.37 j

    Total displacement

    = 28 i + 32.67 i + 12.54 j + 14.55 i + 27.37 j

    = 75.22 i + 39.91 j

    Amplitude

    = √ 75.22² + 39.91²

    = 85 m
