Heat can be transfered through a material and non-material medium.

    Explanation:

Through a material medium it could be solids, liquid and gas.

In solids the heat transfer process is referred to as conduction. Solids atoms are tightly packed so heat moves on the principle of contact the hotter object warms up the object in contact with. The process continues till all particles of the solid is saturated with a common temperature.

In liquids or gases the heat transfer process is referred to as convection. Here warm particles becomes less dense and become lighter creating room for other cooler particle to fall and fill in the position occupied by the particle before till the whole fluid is saturated with a common temperature.

In a non material medium the heat transfer process is referred to as radiation. Here heat is transferred from source in form of electromagnetic rays.
