The sound source emit sound waves continuously. The wave emitted by the source of has specific intensity. The loudness of sound is determined by the intensity of sound. The intensity of sound is dependent on the amplitude of sound wave and the distance of the wave travelled.

As sound travel away from the source the intensity of sound becomes weaker. The intensity of sound decreases with the increase in distance due to spreading of wave in the medium of surrounding. Thus, the loudness of sound waves also decreases with the increase in the distance it travel.
