A nebula is a concentrated area of gas and dust. How does this relate to the formation of stars within galaxies?

Stars form inside relatively dense concentrations of interstellar gas and dust known as molecular clouds. The deep cold also causes the gas to cluster to high densities. When the density reaches a certain degree, stars form. Since the regions are dense, they become opaque to visible light and are known as dark nebula.
