On your way to the dance through there is some slow driving person in front of you so you slam on the gas going 30 mi/hr to 60 mi/he. Luckily your date brought a stop watch and told you the whole thing took place in 10s. What is your acceleration and how far did you and your extremely well equipped date go?

    1) Acceleration

    Use the equations of unformly accelerate motion

    acceleration = [change in velocity] / [time elapsed] = [60 mi/h - 30 mi/h] / 10 s

    acceleration = 30mi/h / 10 s

    30mi/h * 1609m/mi * 1h/3600 s = 13.41 m/s

    acceleration = 13.41 m/s / 10s = 1.34 m / s^2

    2) distance = Vo. t + [1/2]a*t^2 = [13.41 m/s]*10s + [1/2]*1.34 m/s * (10s) ^2 = 201.1 m
