The wind appears to travel clockwise around high pressure systems in the Northern Hemisphere and counterclockwise in the Southern Hemisphere. What phenomenon does this describe?

    This effect is called the Coriolis effect. This effect is observed due to the reference frame in which the pressure system is moving, Earth has a fixed rotation of its own causing the currents to seem like they are moving clockwise and counter clockwise.
