    The water molecule that is closest to the burner is in a very excited state, the molecule is moving rapidly this due to heat that is added to the molecule by the burner. while the molecule that is closest to the surface of the liquid is not very fast compared to the molecule near the burner, but it is still moving due to the heat transfer
