Describe how the meteorite collision at the end of the mesozoic

The Mesozoic Era began about 225 million years ago and ended about 66 million years ago, when an impact (meteorite collision) struck the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico and released energy equivalent to 100 million megatons of TNT. Global effects of that impact were massive earthquakes and the large quantities of dust that blocked incoming solar radiation. The atmosphere admitted much less sunlight and plants were not able to go through the process of photosynthesis. The Earth was in a state of continual darkness and temperatures dropped through the world, generating global winter conditions. This event resulted in extinction of over 50 % living at that time, including the dinosaurs.
