The main reason for people to settle in the Yukon territory in the late 1800s was "Gold".

In 1896 Gold was found in many areas of the said territory and as the area was a remote place where people had less access the news of the discovery spread very slowly. The early stake holders were wealthy because they did not have to face much of a competition; they were called "Klondike Kings". Approximately a year later more than hundred thousand people searching for gold departed for Yukon but more than half of them did not reach there. The incident is remembered in history as Klondike Gold Rush.
