    They wanted a weak central government because they feared that a strong central government would hold too much power. After living in Britain and being taxed and treated badly by the king they didn’t want someone to overrule. Extra-The people who wanted a weak central government are called con-federalists. The people who wanted a strong one were called federal lists.

    I believe they wanted a weak central government in 1776 so that they could earn their spot into the government and get what they wanted.
