The Three-Fifths Compromise stated that each slave would be counted as three-fifths of a person. This gave Southern slave states an unfair advantage in Congress. The fact that people actually agreed to this compromise goes to show how little white Americans thought of enslaved Africans. Just think about how it would feel if someone were to say to you "you're not worth a full person. You're about three-fifths of a person". It was clear that white Americans had little empathy for their fellow black brethren.
