Patterns of stars in constellations hardly change in appearance over times of even a few thousand years. Why

    Because the stars actually move thousands of kilometers per hour and due to the distance from us, it takes a long time for this movement to make a noticeable change in the patterns in the sky and therefore to us to realice it.
