James Wickersham was an Alaska's delegate to the U. S. Congress during 14 years. During this time, he not only guaranteed the approval of the Organic Act of 1912 which gave Alaska territorial status and introduced a statehood bill for it in 1916; he also established the Alaska Railroad, Mount McKinley National Park, the Alaska Agricultural College and School of Mines.
