    Egypt's northern region is surrounded by two well-known deserts, the Eastern Mountain, or Arab Desert, and the Western Sandy, or Libyan Desert. As they have been doing it for centuries, nomads tend to wander these desert areas, halting at oasis to recharge their water systems.

    Egypt's Western Desert is a region of the Sahara Desert that lies west of the Nile River to the Libyan border, and south of the Mediterranean Sea to the Sudan-related frontier. Unlike the Eastern Desert, which stretches east from the Nile to the Red Sea, it is probably named.
