In a civil case, a plaintiff wins a lawsuit if he is 51 percent convincing and will collect 100 percent of his damages. In a criminal case the prosecutor must prove his case beyond a reasonable doubt. Why is there such a significant difference in the burden of proof between civil and criminal cases?

    For example a civil case will be when a father fails to pay child maintainance then the care giver or mother of a child take them to court this is a civil matter genre is a disputes between the mother of a child and the father who refuses to pay child maintainance.

    The consequences of this disputes may be a father is forced by the court order to pay child maintainance or face jail time.

    An example of a criminal case will be a guy who goes robbering houses in the neighborhood and killing the home owners that is a severe case with a severe punishment.
