On this date, December 16, in the year 1773, members of the Sons of Liberty disguised as Mohawk Indians dumped crates of tea into Boston harbor as a protest against the Tea Act and its provisions for taxation of tea. This act of criminal misconduct would become known as the "Boston Tea Party."
