    Incongruous response occurs when two messages conveyed by an individual contradicting one another.

    This tend to make other people who receive the message become confused and can't understand what the communicator actually mean to convey.

    Example:

    Let's say that your friend is just got dumped by his girlfriend and You ask him how he' doing. He start to cry and say I'm fine.

    Even though their verbal communication say he's fine, his non-verbal communication (crying) indicate that he's not. This make the messages contradicting one another.
