    Hey were called the anti-Federalists, and they were appalled by the proposed Constitution ... The Constitution is, first and foremost, a grant of power to the federalgovernment. The Founding Fathers consciously sacrificed state sovereignty in the interests of national unity.

    You mean a strong Central government. They wanted a strong government to prevent conflicts among the states, and to display political power. If the states had too much power, then you couldn't call it the United States.
