Sir Francis Drake was a vice admiral. He was an English navigator, sea captain, privateer, slaver and politician during the Elizabethan era. He was able to carry out the world’s 2nd circumnavigation in just one expedition (1577-1580). He was also the first to finish the journey as captain while on the lead throughout the whole circumnavigation. Queen Elizabeth I awarded Sir Francis Drake a knighthood in the year 1581. He acted as the 2nd in command of the English fleet when they fought against the Spanish Armada.
